Junior Legal Counsel
About The Role:
Paysend is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Legal Counsel to support legal operations in the United States, Canada, and Latin America (LatAm), including countries such as Guatemala and Mexico. Based in Miami, this role will work closely with the Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Business teams across North America and LatAm to assist with contract management, regulatory support, and day-to-day legal matters within a fast-growing fintech environment.
This position is ideal for a junior lawyer looking to build hands-on experience in payments, fintech regulation, and cross-border operations under the supervision of senior legal leadership.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Legal Support for US, Canada, and LatAm Projects
Assist with legal support for projects and initiatives across the United States, Canada, and LatAm, including product, operational, and regulatory initiatives
Conduct legal research on U.S. federal and state laws, Canadian regulatory frameworks, and selected LatAm regulations relevant to fintech and payments
Prepare legal research summaries, issue-spotting notes, and internal guidance to support legal decision-making
Contract Drafting and Review:
Draft, review, and assist in negotiating commercial agreements, including vendor agreements, NDAs, service agreements, payment processing agreements, and statements of work
Support contract approvals to ensure alignment with U.S., Canadian, and Group company legal requirements
Assist with contract tracking, renewals, and maintenance of standard templates and clause libraries
Ongoing Legal & Compliance Assistance:
Monitor changes in laws and regulations relevant to Paysend’s operations in the United States, Canada, and LatAm and escalate key updates to the Global Legal team
Support regulatory filings, license renewals, and responses to regulatory or partner inquiries under supervision of US Legal counsel and in close collaboration with US Compliance Team
Assist in updating internal legal documentation, policies, and procedures
Assist with an internal legal operation
Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Support:
Collaborate with Compliance, Operations, Finance, Product, and Business teams to support legal workflows and compliance initiatives
Coordinate with external counsel on discrete matters, including document collection, research support, and information requests
Support internal communications related to legal and regulatory matters
What You’ll Need To Be Successful In This Role:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (or eligibility to obtain admission)
Relevant legal experience (law firm or in-house experience preferred)
Strong legal research, drafting, and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Would Be Considered a Plus:
Exposure to fintech, payments, financial services, or technology companies
Familiarity with U.S. and/or Canadian regulatory frameworks affecting payments or consumer financial services, data privacy (training acceptable)
Exposure to LatAm legal or regulatory matters
Fluency in Spanish
