Senior Accountant
About The Role:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting
operations, ensuring compliance with Serbian accounting standards and tax regulations. You will work closely with external accountants and auditors in Belgrade and the Local and Group Finance team within a growing multi-national fintech company. You will have trained as an auditor and have experience working in the finance function of a financial services company, or financial services audit team, and tackle any problem as well as coordinate multiple deliverables in a fast paced environment. You will need to have an analytical mindset, incredible attention to detail, and an ability to communicate effectively to succeed in this role.
This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work at home and you must be present in our Belgrade office on a weekly basis
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Overseeing all financial control activities, e.g., month-end close process, preparation and review of management accounts including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statements, comprehensive balance sheet substantiation, journal entries, AP / AR, accruals, cash management.
- Lead External Audit engagements co-ordinating all deliverables and management of
the overall Serbian Audit plan to ensure financial statements are submitted on time
and subsequent closure of any relevant audit recommendations. - Working with external accountants and internal finance team to ensure that all tax returns are submitted in a timely manner and in compliance with Serbian tax
regulations - Reconciliation of Serbian accounts to Group accounts on a monthly basis,
understanding and explaining variances, and resolving any issues. - Ensuring accurate and timely processing of Payroll for a team of 150 staff based in Serbia
- Management of Corporate Bank Accounts and ensuring sufficient funds are in place at all times
- Development of accounting processes for newly created Serbian Branch of UK entity
- Management of Intercompany recharge process and ensuring adherence to OECD Transfer Pricing guidelines.
- Management of all Serbian Finance Standard Operating Procedrues (SOPs) and
identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy - Work closely with the Group Finance Team and lead on Group Finance activities as required.
- Point of contact for external accounting firms, auditors, and banks in Serbia.
- Assist in training team members on accounting procedures and systems
What You’ll Need To Be Successful In This Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Fully qualified Accountant with at least 5 years of progressive experience in accounting with at least 2-3 years in a senior accountant or similar role
- In-depth knowledge of Serbian accounting and tax regulations; familiarity with IFRS
- Experience with ERP systems; Netsuite experience is highly desirable
- Experience of leading Financial services audits and financial control activities
- Fluency in Serbian and English, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel / Google Sheets experience
- Highly organised with high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
- The ability to work closely with external advisers (audit and accounting)
- Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a team
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
- Meticuolous and accurate in handling financial information
- Proactive and resourceful in resolving accounting discrepancies and issues
