Senior Network Engineer
About The Role:
We are looking for a skilled Network Engineer to join our IT infrastructure team and take ownership of designing, deploying, and maintaining our global network systems. This role is crucial in ensuring high availability, performance, and security across both on-premise and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enterprise networking, practical experience with leading hardware vendors, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and performance optimization.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Ability to design, plan and maintain network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, and data centre networks, to meet the organisation’s connectivity needs and scalability requirements.
- Configure and deploy network hardware and software components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Implement security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls to protect the network from cyber threats and unauthorised access.
- Continuously monitor network performance and health, using tools like SNMP or network monitoring software, to proactively identify and address issues.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity problems, routing errors, and performance bottlenecks, to minimise downtime.
- Assess network capacity and bandwidth requirements, making recommendations for upgrades or optimisations as needed.
- Analyse network traffic patterns and usage to optimise network performance and plan for future growth.
- Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, topologies, and changes for reference and compliance purposes.
- Implement changes to the network infrastructure following change management processes to ensure stability and minimise risks.
- Work with network equipment vendors and service providers to procure hardware, software, and services and ensure they meet organisational requirements.
- Develop and enforce network policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure a secure and compliant network environment.
- Develop and test network disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of network failures or disasters.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and IT professionals to integrate network solutions into various projects and initiatives.
- Provide remote support to branch offices/locations or remote users to address network-related issues.
- Plan and execute network upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Stay updated with the latest security threats and vulnerabilities, and implement appropriate security measures to protect the network.
- Ensure network configurations and practices comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful In This Role:
- Proficiency in network protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Knowledge of network hardware components, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and access points.
- Ability to design network architectures and topologies to meet specific organizational requirements.
- Expertise in configuring and managing network devices and services, often using command-line interfaces.
- Knowledge of network security principles and practices, including firewall configuration, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network access controls.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and protocols (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow) to detect and address performance issues.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve network issues efficiently.
- Understanding of load balancing concepts and the ability to configure load balancers for high availability and performance.
- Experience with wireless networking technologies, including Wi-Fi standards and access point management.
- Knowledge of virtualisation technologies and their impact on network infrastructure, such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate network tasks and configurations.
- Strong documentation skills to maintain network diagrams, configurations, and change logs.
- The ability to work with network equipment vendors and service providers to procure and support network solutions.
- Skill in assessing network capacity and making recommendations for upgrades or optimisations.
- Project management skills to plan and execute network-related projects effectively.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills to analyse network performance data and make data-driven decisions.
- Willingness to stay updated with emerging networking technologies and industry trends.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and the ability to ensure network configurations meet security and compliance standards.
- Ability to respond quickly to network emergencies and implement disaster recovery plans.
- Basic understanding of financial processes and terminology relevant to the fintech industry.
- Experience with Arista (Internet borders with BGP and switches)
- Experience with Cisco Nexus (core switches)
- Experience with Cisco SAN switches
- Experience with Cisco ASA or Cisco Firepower
- Practical experience working with RIPE as a LIR
- Experience with NGFW (Forcepoint or Fortigate or others)
- Experience working with the network in AWS, create a fault-tolerant dedicated channels will be a plus
