What's the role about?

Paysend is a fast-growing financial services company focused on providing secure and innovative solutions to our customers. Our Security Operations Department is crucial to safeguarding our systems, networks, and infrastructure. We are looking for a talented Senior Security Engineer to join our team and focus on managing security systems, identifying and addressing vulnerabilities, and supporting SOC operations.

The Senior Security Engineer reports to the Security Operations Lead and works as part of a collaborative security team, ensuring robust protection across infrastructure and operations. This role involves managing and tuning SIEM and IDS systems, conducting vulnerability assessments, supporting incident response, and participating in audits. The Senior Security Engineer develops and enforces security configuration standards, evaluates changes for security impact, and ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Success in this role requires expertise in system and network security technologies, a strong understanding of security standards, and experience with cloud environments. Proficiency in security tools, communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills are critical. Additional experience in security automation, threat detection, and vulnerability management tools is advantageous. 

Senior Security Engineer contributes to a secure and reliable infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain compliance and protect Paysend against security threats and vulnerabilities.

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Supporting security systems, improving infrastructure security, and enhancing security automation. Maintaining security operations for company systems, networks, and infrastructure, including data centers and cloud environments, to ensure high availability and resilience.
• Supporting, managing, and tuning the company’s SIEM and IDS systems. Conducting regular threat detection and response operations and actively participating in incident response procedures to mitigate security risks.
• Supporting and improving vulnerability detection tools and processes. Performing vulnerability verification and triage, developing, implementing, and documenting mitigation controls, and monitoring and verifying the remediation of vulnerabilities to ensure continuous improvement.
• Developing, implementing, and refining security configuration standards for physical, virtual, and SaaS cloud systems. Regularly auditing company systems to ensure secure and reliable configurations and adherence to established standards.
• Participating in the ongoing change management process by assessing the impact of changes on the company’s infrastructure security and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and security requirements.
• Providing expert advice and guidance to IT Operations and Site Reliability teams on security-related matters. Delivering both scheduled and ad hoc training to educate teams on security requirements and best practices. Ensuring compliance with established security policies and standards.

What you’ll need to be successful in the role:

• A degree in computer science, information technology, information security, or a relevant discipline, providing a strong foundation for understanding and addressing security challenges.
• 6+ years of experience in security engineering or a similar role, working closely with infrastructure security and security operations teams.
• Strong understanding of security principles and familiarity with industry standards such as PCI DSS, SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CSA CCM.
• Proficiency in Windows and Linux security tools, as well as experience with cloud infrastructure providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Strong familiarity with common architecture patterns and widely used software, including IT management tools, web servers, and database systems.
• Familiarity with CVSS scoring and risk management methodologies, with the ability to effectively prioritize and address vulnerabilities based on risk levels.
• Hands-on experience with system and network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection tools
• Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes) to manage and secure distributed environments (preferred but not required).
• Hands-on experience with database security (Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.), including implementing access controls, encryption, auditing, and monitoring for suspicious activity (preferred but not required).
• Strong communication and organizational skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, IT teams, and external auditors, and to maintain security processes and documentation.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex security challenges and make informed decisions.
• A solid command of the English language (upper-intermediate or better) to ensure effective communication within an international team and access to security resources.
